ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Authorities say that Mylan Mahoney has been charged in the murder of 44-year-old James Hawkins on West Highland Avenue, late Sunday night. Mahoney is in the Dougherty County jail.

Hawkins was shot at least three times in the left side.

Prosecutors believe it was a robbery attempt and say several people witnessed it.

"There were three persons developed as persons of interest, and this latest arrest is one of the persons that has been identified as a person of interest, and is also possibly identified as a shooter, or the shooter in this particular instance," said Greg Edwards, Dougherty D.A

The District Attorney says more arrests are expected.  Mahoney is being held without bond in the Dougherty County Jail.

Hawkins' brother made a public plea for witnesses to help police find the killers.

Dennis Hawkins said his brother's funeral will be Saturday.
