South GA job seekers still facing a tough job market

Dominique Miller Dominique Miller

Some South Georgia job seekers said Wednesday there were jobs available in South Georgia...but landing them was tough.

The Goodwill Career Center in Valdosta held a job fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday.  Around 10 businesses and organizations were on hand to answer questions and provide information about their company for the job seekers.

Dominique Miller said he had been looking for a job for about a year while in college but there was a lot of competition, especially during the Summer.

"College students and the people that come fresh out of high school, they're tryin' to find a job also," Miller expressed. "I've been stayin' pretty confident the whole time I've been lookin'. I've always been a confident person, so I think that's helpin' me along the way."

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, as of Wednesday the latest numbers showed the state's unemployment rate to be 6.3%. The national unemployment rate was listed at 5.5%.
