VSU Interim President looking to better the university

Cecil Staton Cecil Staton
VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

VSU's new Interim President was on campus and getting settled in to his new role Tuesday.

Dr. Cecil Staton arrived on campus Monday to take over as President until a permanent replacement for Dr. William McKinney is chosen.

In April, Dr. McKinney announced that he would resign as of July 1st after less than three years on the job. Dr. Staton said even though he may not be at VSU long term, he wants to help the university as much as he can.

"We're gonna not take this as a time to sit back and relax. We're gonna use every day and every moment of time we have here to make sure we leave Valdosta State University better than when i came into the office," Dr. Staton emphasized.

Dr. Staton said he was expecting be at VSU for at least a year and said that as of Tuesday, having only just begun his term as Interim President, it would be premature for him to start thinking about being chosen as the next President of the university.
