Albany Police Chief says people should feel safe downtown

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany's Police Chief says he's proud of how well fourth of July events went and he hopes that answers questions some doubters have about going downtown.

Albany Police maintained a heavy presence and report no problems during the downtown events.
Chief Michael Persley says that shows that downtown is safe.

"Despite what the public perception may of been about having the fear about coming to downtown this past weekend showed that you know it is safe downtown and you can come with your family and have a good time," Chief Michael Persley said.

The Chief hopes the weekend's success will convince more people to head downtown to enjoy themselves.
