ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Episcopal priest in Albany is waiting for the okay from church leaders to start performing same sex marriages.
Wednesday leaders at the Episcopal Generation Convention overwhelming voted to allow weddings for same sex couples in their churches.
The Pastor at St. Paul's Episcopal Church says they are a welcoming church and they accept all people as they are.
"We have moved along in our understanding of a deep love between two people of the same gender has changed. It's really time I think for the church to come to new understandings," said Rector Lee Lowery, St. Paul Episcopal Church.
Lowery expects further instructions soon from the Episcopal bishop for this area on when they can begin allowing same sex marriages in their church.
