Albany is celebrating the next generation of Georgia physicians. The southwest clinical campus of the Medical College of Georgia was established to decrease a physician shortage in rural south Georgia.
Today the campus commemorated its 10th anniversary.
The event included a student-led community service project focused on children living with diabetes.
4th year medical student Sheaffer Sorrells says, "Its an educational program where we try and inform the patients as well as their families what diabetes means, how they go about living with diabetes and what they can do to improve their overall health status."
The program give 3rd and 4th year medical students the ability to work with patients across Southwest Georgia with the hope that many of them will stay here to practice.
