ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The City of Albany is celebrating the next generation of Georgia physicians.
The southwest clinical campus of the Medical College of Georgia was established in an effort to decrease the impending physician shortage.
The campus Associate Dean said they hope by providing top-notch clinical experiences, students will want to return to the area to practice after completing their training.
Third and fourth year students also had a community service project today focusing on children living with diabetes.
"It's an educational program where we try and inform the patients as well as their families what diabetes means, how they go about living with diabetes, and what they can do to improve their overall health status," said medical student Sheaffer Sorrells.
Sheaffer says the program offers 3rd and 4th year students the ability to interact and work with patients across southwest Georgia.
