ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said a man has been arrested and charged in connection to the shooting of Dawson Mayor Christopher Wright and the assault of his mother.

Nakia Jones, 31 was arrested by U.S. Marshals and charged with aggravated assault.

Officials said he was living at a home on Holloway Street in Albany.

Jones was booked into the Dougherty County Jail.

There was no immediate word on if a bond amount was offered.

The arrest comes a year and a half after Wright was shot and nearly killed during the ambush shooting at his home in 2013.

He was re-elected Mayor of Dawson in the November election.
