Major Lee Co. road project underway

Work is underway on the first part a multi-million dollar road project in Lee County.

Crews have started phase one of the Forrester Parkway. County leaders call it a top transportation priority.
There aren't many roads running east to west and officials believe this will become a vital new artery for drivers that will also improve public safety.

"It's hard for our sheriff's deputies and for EMS and so forth to go east and west. They have to dog-leg and go around all kinds of routes to answer EMS and public safety calls so I think it will mean better safety," said Ron Rabun, the Lee County Administrator.

It will cost $815,000 for phase one which is expected to be complete in the next 60 to 90 days.
The entire project will take about 5 years.
