As you celebrate the Fourth of July, you need to remember pets may not enjoy the festivities as much as people.

Fireworks often frighten pets.

You can try to distract anxious pets with toys, bones, or calming sounds.

Veterinary assistant Jennifer Glover said they see an increase in the number of lost dogs this time of year.

“Sometimes they will to try to escape what they think is going to hurt them.  They'll run.  And people lose their dogs all the time on the Fourth of July,” said Glover.

There is training available to help desensitize your pets from fear of other loud noises throughout the summer, such as bad thunderstorms and lawn mowers.
