VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The city of Valdosta was reminding people Monday about the importance of protecting against mosquitoes.
With the 4th of July coming up on Saturday, many people may be planning on spending lots of time outside Saturday to celebrate the holiday. The city encourages people to wear plenty of bug spray, wear long pants and long sleeves if possible, and remove any standing water.
"To help minimize not only the bites from mosquitoes, but also, by eliminating bites you also are eliminating the possibility of mosquito born illnesses," emphasized Kenneth Lowry, District Epidemiologist for the Department of Public Health's South Health District, which is based in Valdosta.
