VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - A Valdosta recreation center was helping kids and teens Friday become healthier and have fun doing it.
Friday, the Southside Recreation Center held its "Fun and Fitness Day."
Kids from 5 to 17 participated in a variety of events, designed to help encourage physical activity and exercise in order to help the kids be less susceptible to things like diabetes and childhood obesity.
The center's director, Rachel Bradley, said she was glad they had a large turnout.
"We have some parents out here today volunteering. Their kids attend the Summer program and the after school program and they're here to help us out. So, I think they appreciate the fact that we tryin' to help the kids, the entire family, to live healthy lives," said Bradley.
Bradley added that the kids also learn about healthy eating habits during the Summer and after school programs and get thirty minutes of exercise each day.
