The Moultrie business community believes the $9 million expansion of their National Beef Packing Company facility will be an exciting growth step to the city's economy.
National Beef announced this week that it will expand it's Moultrie operation, creating approximately 200 new jobs. The Moultrie facility, started in 2001, produces and packs beef, pork, and ground beef.
Chamber of Commerce officials say consumer demand has driven the new expansion. "They are expanding, providing new products," said Moultrie/Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce President Darrell Moore. "More products for the customers. Again as customer start adding more products, and more distribution centers, and more demand hopefully employment will continue to grow here too."
Moore said the expansion work is already underway at the Moultrie National Beef facility, and they hope to complete the construction by October. With the new expansion their number of employees is expected to be more than 420.
