VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -
Dozens of members of the LGBTQ community in South Georgia gathered in Valdosta Friday to celebrate the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same sex marriage in all 50 states.
Friday afternoon, WALB caught up with Ramon Perez Levy Hiers as they applied for their marriage license from the Lowndes County Probate Court.
The couple said they were very excited when they learned they would finally get the opportunity. "As soon as we heard the text messages going off, we jumped up, woke everyone up, and started watching the news. We were just thrilled," Perez said with a smile on his face, after applying for the marriage license. "We were all just jumping for joy and recording the television."
Ramon and Perez had the wedding officiated during the celebration Friday evening in downtown Valdosta.
