ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County community leaders were greeted with smiling faces as they toured several Boys and Girls Clubs of Albany locations.
Folks met at the civic center this morning for the first Big Blue Bus tour. It gives folks a chance to see how the organization helps children in South Georgia.
United Way officials say this event also lets people see their donations at work.
"We were going through our strategic planning process right now and one of the things we realized is that people know our name," said Marvin Laster of the Boys Girls Clubs of Albany
"They know our great reputation, but they may not necessarily know exactly what it is that we do. We're not just swim and gym, we're a youth development organization."
"Tours like this are very important so that donors understand the return on their investment and where the United Way funds are actually going," said LaKisha Bryant Bruce of the United Way of Southwest GA.
Organizers hope to make this an annual event.
