BROOKS CO., GA (WALB) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested 31-year-old James Michael Smith, Jr., and charged him with murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children in the first degree, in the death of two-year-old Parker Bledsoe, on June 11.
Parker was in the care of Smith on Cedar Hill Road in Brooks County when he was found unresponsive.
"An autopsy has been conducted by the GBI's Medical Examiner's Office in Atlanta. It was found that he died of head trauma," said Steve Turner, GBI Special Agent in Charge.
Smith called 911, but Bledsoe was pronounced dead at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida less than 24 hours after he was found unresponsive.
An autopsy was performed on Bledsoe on June 15 at the state crime lab in Atlanta. The results showed the cause of death as head trauma.
Smith was taken to the Brooks County Jail and is awaiting a bond hearing.
