LEE CO., GA (WALB) - A Lee County special needs teacher is in her eighth year of providing a summer camp.
Marti Yelverton started Camp Sunshine for Lee County for Pre-K through third grade students with special needs.
The 3 week camp operates out of Kinchafonee Primary School and includes field trips and other fun learning experiences.
"It's a type of respite service for those parents. It is a service for those children who otherwise just might be sitting at home. Typically children with special needs don't always have a big network of friends. They don't have people calling them to say hey come play with me, this gives them a chance to make friends," said Marti Yelverton Camp Sunshine Director.
The camp is funded through Easter Seals and recently received a grant from the Albany Exchange Club to expand.
