Car driver charged in Albany school bus wreck

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - There is new information on a crash involving a Dougherty County school bus carrying  39 children Wednesday afternoon to the YMCA.

Nobody on the bus was hurt.

It was crossing Westover Boulevard on Oakridge Drive around 3 p.m. when a car trying to turn onto Oakridge hit the bus.

"The policy is to review crashes anytime they happen. Make sure the driver was doing everything they were supposed to be doing also make sure the general safety of the well being of the children were taken into account," said J.D. Summer, D.C.S.S.

Troopers charged the driver of the car 33-year-old Lequistia Hawkins with failure to yield.

She, her father, and two children in the car were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
