CAIRO, GA (WALB) -  A Cairo mother shaved her head for the fifth time to raise awareness for childhood cancer.

Karen Singletary's 13-year-old son Zach was diagnosed with medulloblastoma when he was just 3-years old.

Zach's MRIs have shown no evidence of disease for the past eight years.

Now his mother, and other moms from around the country, shave their heads to raise awareness of the need for advancements in childhood cancer treatment.

“It breaks your heart, because you can't go through it for him,” said Karen.  “And I think that to continue to fight to find a cure for childhood cancer or better treatments is something that I feel like I have to do.”
