ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Camp Commander of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans says if Americans knew their true history, the call to remove Confederate flags would end.
James King says the Confederate flag did not proclaim racism or hate, but was a symbol for Southerners who wanted to preserve their original United States constitutional rights.
"It represents government of the people, by the people, and for the people. It's the last flag to represent personal liberty and so forth in America, as opposed to centralized government," said James W. King.
Sons of the Confederate Veterans memorials are on private property, and King says they will continue to fly the Confederate flags to honor the soldiers and their history.
