ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The city will increase spending slightly in the coming year.
Commissioners approved a new budget that's only $280,000 more than last year.
The millage rate will remain the same.
Commissioners say the city is running more efficiently.
"Since we downsized a lot of jobs and a lot of people were reassigned to other areas to go into retirement, it decreased about 200 jobs," said Tommie Postell, Albany City Commissioner. "So with a decrease of that nature, it would look sort of funny to increase the tax and you don't have those employees."
The budget includes 2.5% pay raises for all employees that will go into effect in a month.
