APD gets new cameras

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Police Department is getting new cameras.

Commissioners approved buying 20 new mobile cameras for new police cars that should hit the streets in a couple of months.

They also approved outfitting the cars with new printers and laptops.

"It makes the vehicle more of the office for the police officer," said Chief Michael Persley, Albany Police. "Because of our new Records Management System the officer is able to complete their reports in the vehicle and also with the camera system it's just part of another strategy that we're using."

APD also hopes to buy new body cameras for officers.

Chief Persley says they're still testing different models to find ones that are durable.
