'SAVE' forms to put a stop to violence

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - A new organization in Americus is working to put an end to violence in their community.

Founder Laura Edwards says the idea to form "SAVE" or "Standing Against Violent Environments" started because of a increase in violence in the area.

She says she grew up in Americus and wants to see positive things happen there.

On Saturday evening, they held a rally with an open forum so people could share their thoughts and ideas.

“Every person that is a part of the SAVE committee grew up here so we have roots here, we care about this community, and we know the positives that can come out of it. People that have come from Americus and we want to get back to that,” says SAVE founder Laura Edwards.

They've sold t-shirts and bracelets. Edwards says this is only beginning.

Thomasville really embraces the Victorian era. It's a time in the city's history when it became a popular winter resort so it seems fitting that the Rose City's holiday theme focuses on this period. And the community gets into the spirit by dressing in Victorian-era clothing.
