The Albany American Red Cross blood donor center was officially closed Friday.
Because of budget issues, the Red Cross decided to close the center on Dawson Road. Many long time, regular Albany donors worry the center's closing will not benefit community health.
Blood donor Luke Flatt said "there are so many people willing to give blood. And the convenience of having the blood center here has always been an advantage for Albany and the Southwest Georgia area. So the fact that it is closing is disappointing."
American Red Cross officials say platelet donors should give at the Valdosta Blood Donation Center. Blood drives will be held at Porterfield United Methodist Church on the first Tuesday and the fourth Thursday each month.
