VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - As of Friday, changes were expected to come to SGMC's Smith Northview Campus in Valdosta.
The hospital was preparing to convert the ER there into an urgent care center instead and move several of the ER services to the ER at the hospital's main campus.
SGMC's Chief Operating Officer, Bill Forbes, said the change will allow people who just need urgent care to get that care cheaper and without unnecessarily taking up time in the ER.
"ER's are expensive to run, they're expensive for our customer to come and utilize," Forbes explained. "Urgent care centers are much more efficient and somewhat less expensive for the customer and provides the amount of services they need for that."
The urgent care center will not be a 24/7 service.
As of Friday, the changes were expected to start taking effect around July 18th. Call (229) 259-4421 for more information.
