Lee Co. teen injured playing with gunpowder

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - WALB News 10 has new information Lee County teenager injured while playing with gunpowder Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say the 15-year-old boy lit gunpowder he placed in a pipe at his home off Georgia Highway 32 West when it ignited causing injuries to his hand.

Police believe the teen found the gunpowder in the home.

The teen was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

“It appeared that he was playing with some gunpowder and he ignited the gunpowder and when he did from what I understand he's possibly got some injuries to his extremities to his hand and his foot,” said Major Keith Houston, Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Police don't believe the teen was making a bomb.

They say the case is still under investigation.
