THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -  Thomasville Police encourage residents to use a new website showing crimes reported around the community.

It's called crimereport.org

The department purchased the privately-owned software to give residents a better idea of what's going on around them.

The website shows incidents such as car break ins, home burglaries, assaults, and the locations of convicted sex offenders.

Major Wade Glover said, “The new trend to law enforcement is taking that data and focusing our patrol efforts on that particular area where the crime is occurring. We don't necessarily want our officers out patrolling an area where the crime's not occurring.”

The department's goal is to get every resident signed up for this free service.
