CAIRO, GA (WALB) - Jarrod Aubrey Miller, 27, was found guilty of one count of Aggravated Battery Family Violence in a Cairo courtroom Monday afternoon.
South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney Joseph K. Mulholland told the jury that on July 9, 2014, Miller intentionally and maliciously struck his mother, Paulette Miller, in the face, causing multiple facial fractures, swollen eyes, and a split lip.
Paulette Miller later died from unrelated causes in August, 2014.
Cairo doctors Mark Hudson and Paul Steinberg testified that the facial injuries were some of the worst they'd seen in decades of medicine.
Judge A. Wallace Cato sentenced Miller to the maximum of 20 years to serve in prison.
District Attorney Mulholland said, “I would like to thank the jury for ensuring that the defendant won't be able to hurt anyone else for a long, long time.”
He described the case as “sick and sad;” how the defendant harmed the person who loved him the most: his own mother.
