BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - Officers want to prevent folks in Bainbridge from becoming a victim of a scam.

Several people have reported receiving a later in the mail claiming they've won a prize from either Walmart, Sears, Home Depot, Safeway or ASDA.

Investigators said you should never be asked to send a payment in to receive a prize, and if you do, it's a scam.

Captain Mark Esquivel said, “Anytime you're suspicious of something, that's what we're here for. They can call us, we can check into it. And if it is a legitimate check or sweepstakes, then great.”

If you believe you're a victim of one of these scams,  contact Bainbridge Public Safety.
