Investigation underway after Chehaw funds taken

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Chehaw Park Management and the Chehaw Park Authority said Monday morning said that they were recently made aware of apparent theft of funds by a former employee.

Management started an investigation, and then terminated the employee. They gave their information to the Albany Police Department.

A police report from APD, dated June first, showed that Angela Rivera admitted to Chehaw officials that she made unauthorized charges on Chehaw's credit card. The report indicates that about $6,000 in charges are in question.

Chehaw management is reviewing internal control policies and procedures to safeguard its assets.

Chehaw says they don't expect any program or service to be compromised by what they called "this unfortunate event."

They remain committed to inspiring people to connect with nature and encourage people conservation action through positive recreational and educational experiences.
