Americus top cop to step down

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Chief Brian Carney is resigning as police chief in Americus.

He took office on January 5th of this year, after the department went nearly a year and a half without a chief. 

Chief Carney said the department is “Making improvements and headed in the right direction.” 

He said he hopes the new chief can continue the growth in the right direction. 

His last day will be next Friday, June 19th.
