BROOKS CO., GA (WALB) -

A child found unresponsive while in the care of a babysitter died after about 24 hours at a hospital.

The 2-year-old boy, identified as Parker Bledsoe was in the care of a babysitter on Cedar Hill Road when emergency crews were called early Thursday afternoon.

The child was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta then airlifted to Shands Hospital in Florida.

He was pronounced dead at 2:05 p.m. Friday.

"All of a sudden, you just hear a hundred. I've never heard that many sirens in my life, I really haven't," Reuben Kinsey said, as he recalled the events that happened Thursday.

Kinsey says he's lived in the home across the street for close to 15 years, and he's never experienced anything like this.

"Something bad, really. Something's terrible. This isn't your regular 'somebody's arguing again' or whatever. This is something serious," he said Friday, before news of the child's death came.

It was on Thursday afternoon around 1:00 p.m. that Brooks County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the home after they received a call about an unresponsive child.

Investigators said the child was with a caretaker at the time of the incident.

"We don't know why the child was found unresponsive. And we're still investigating that and trying to put it together right now," said Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Steve Turner.
