BACONTON, GA (WALB) - A pastor's dream of building a center for youth to visit after school and in the summer has come true.
The Youth Life Center is Baconton is expected to be complete by the end of the month. The final touches are getting done to complete the Youth Life Center in Baconton.
They broke ground in September of last year. The building is expected to be finished by the end of the month.
Pastor Lawrence Knighton has been planning this center for some time and looks forward to getting it finished. "Just something to keep the kids busy and off the streets so they can continue to be successful in their lives."
"For me it's not about building another sanctuary, its about building something that can have a legacy, kids can have from now on, and so even if I leave next year, we want to be able to say we've done something that made a difference in the community."
The building is nearly eight thousand square feet, and will included a basketball court, a game room, and auditorium.
"This will give them an avenue to come in and play pool, do homework, ping pong, basketball, and it's really just something we want to do to be a blessing to the community."
And Knighton wants folks to know its opened to everyone in Baconton and the surrounding communities, not just the church.
"It's a building that the community can use for weddings, family reunions, or anything of that nature."
