LEE CO., GA (WALB) - Lee County Commissioners plan to offer county workers raises without raising taxes.
Tonight, they held a public hearing on the 23.7 million dollar budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
That's up less than a million dollars over the current budget.
Chairman Rick Muggridge says a 3-percent raise for employees is long overdue.
"It's a bit overdue," said Rick Muggridge, Chairman. "We financially just haven't been in the place to do that at this point until now but it's the right time and I'm sure many would argue a little overdue."
Another hearing will be held in two weeks.
The commission must approve the budget before July 1st.
