Albany and Lee County leaders discuss Rails to Trails

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany city leaders inform Lee County leaders about the Rails to Trails project.

Interim City Manager Phil Roberson presented details to Lee County Commissioners.

The city will pay to turn a 13.6-mile long abandoned rail line into a walking and biking trail and a 7.9-miles run through Lee County.

" Is to just let them know on the front end of this project what we're doing. Get their buy in and eventually they'll be asked to weigh in on the trail as far as connections to the trail. The amenities along the trail. We'll be asking for their assistance in developing this trail plan. Because they're partners with Albany in this process as is Terrell County," said Phil Roberson, Asst. City Manager.

The city will also use the project to expand gas an internet services.

Materials have been ordered for new gas lines, but no construction start date has been set on the 5-year project.
