VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The South Georgia Pecan Company in Lowndes County was preparing Tuesday to officially add more jobs.
Construction was underway for a $5.6 million, 74,000 sq ft. building at the company's plant on Highway 84 E. The new building was expected to house raw materials and to create 20 new jobs.
With the new building, South Georgia Pecan also expected to be able to increase the amount of pecans it can process each year from 55 million pounds to 70 million.
"It gives us probably a third more capacity than what we had before; a third or half more," said South Georgia Pecan CEO Jim Worn. "I feel good about it. I know it's good for the community."
As of Tuesday, construction was expected to be finished by the beginning of August.
