ADEL, GA (WALB) - For the first time, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College had begun Tuesday offering driver's ed classes free of charge.
Thanks to a grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, the college was able to offer the classes for free. Classes were being offered at the Cook, Valdosta, Fitzgerald, and Douglas campuses.
The college was expecting to have more than double the number of students over the Summer in 2015 than in 2014 with the classes being free.
"We had about 150 students take driver's ed last year and just this Summer alone we'll have about 400," said Wiregrass's Vice President of Economic Development, Lidell Greenway. "The good thing about it is, there'll be 250 more safe drivers on the road hopefully."
Pre-registration is required and there were, as of Tuesday, only a few spots left for the Summer classes. to see a full schedule of the classes or to sign up, visit www.wiregrass.edu.
