APD holds man in weekend shooting death

Authorities continue to hold a man in jail, as they question him about the shooting death of an Albany man Saturday night. 27-year-old Cameron Jones is not charged, but police say he is a person of interest.

32-year-old Quentin Cheatham was shot in the 1500 block of Malone Drive Saturday night about 9:30 and died later at the hospital.

"The case is under investigation by the police department. I will then evaluate what is developed from the investigation and we'll decide what is the appropriate way to go," said Greg Edwards, Dougherty D. A.

Jones can lawfully be held 72 hours before investigators must either file charges or let him go.

The D. A. would not discuss the possible motive for the shooting while the investigation continues.
