OCILLA, GA (WALB) - Ocilla Police and GBI have charged Donnell Lewis with voluntary manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of Demetrius Fuller.
24-year-old Demetrius Fuller bled to death after being stabbed in the neck over the weekend.
The 43-year-old Lewis was being held on probation violation. Lewis was given a $50,000 bond, which he had not posted as of 9:00 Tuesday morning.
GBI Agents say the fight started at the corner of Fieldstone Drive and Seventh Street at the front door of a house, and spilled over to the yard where it turned deadly.
GBI agents continue to process a car in an old tow lot in Irwin County. They say this is where Demetrius Fuller died on his way to the hospital.
Over in the quiet neighborhood where it happened. "Stunned" Elois Prater. "He's just a real cool guy and a tragic thing happened."
People are pretty surprised. "This world is getting in a bad shape. Well the world ain't getting in it, people is getting into bad shape. They done strayed away from God," said Louvinia White.
"It don't really happen that much around here in Irwin county but when it happens, it's shocking. It hits you real bad. And that's a family member at that," said Antwuane Merritt.
Merritt says his cousin was a caring person that everyone liked. "He's just a good character all around. I just don't see why someone would stab him," said Merritt.
Evidence markers show two spots on the door where the fight started, but so many questions remain about what happened.
We knocked on the door, but the residents did not want to talk about the fight.
Neighbors say life must go on. "You have to live. It's dangerous everywhere you go now. You know? This is home, and just want to enjoy it. That's all," said Prater. "I stay home. I go to work. I go to church. Go to the grocery store and back home. That's the way everybody should go," said White.
Police say the two men did know each other, but there's still a lot of questions about what started the fight.
