CORDELE, GA (WALB) - A grassroots organization called my Brother's Keeper demonstrated tonight outside the Georgia Department of Labor office in Cordele.
The department is closing the career center and consolidating it with the office in Americus.
Protesters say Cordele's unemployment rate is high, and the community needs the job hunting services the center offers.
"This building and this office means so much to our community. It's been a vital part of our community over the years and most of us standing here remember this building, even as children and the importance of having the building here. We have a lot of people in our community seeking jobs here on a day to day basis," says Isaac Owens, with My Brother's Keeper.
State officials say closing the Cordele facility will save about $200,000 a year.
