Department of Labor combines Americus and Cordele centers

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - On Friday, June 12, the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) Americus and Cordele career centers will merge to one center located in Sumter County, serving the eight surrounding counties.

Americus serves Marion, Schley, Sumter, Taylor and Webster counties, while Cordele serves Crisp, Dooly, and Macon counties. Americus is the more centralized location and will be the most accessible to residents of all eight counties.

The Cordele Career Center will close and its staff will go to the Americus Career Center.

The GDOL owns the Americus Career Center building, and paid rent on the Cordele Career Center. The merger saves $200,000 in operating expenses.

The Americus Career Center is located at 120 West Church St. The telephone number is (229) 931-2520. It is open to serve the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
