THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Thomasville Police and Thomasville Fire Rescue partnered together to teach children fire safety.

Kids met Tuesday at Scott Elementary School for a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the life of a firefighter.

They toured fire trucks and learned the stop, drop, and roll technique from Moonpie the Clown.

Officers also taught them the importance of testing smoke detectors, and told them to share that lesson with their parents.

Officer Chris Baggett said, “We just forget to check these things.  It kind of brings it back in our minds when the kid comes home and says, 'Hey Mom, hey Dad, do the fire detectors work? Have you checked them lately?' And that kind of clicks in our mind.”

The fire safety session is a portion of the police department's Safe-T-Ville program.
