After several years, a Dougherty County library could soon reopen
The proposed 2015/2016 budget includes reopening the Southside library branch.
Dwindling county revenues forced leaders to close it and the Westtown branch three years ago. The upcoming budget proposal includes $111,000 to run the Southside branch.
"Library services are part of the fabric of the community. And we're glad that we're in a position where we can actually provide that funding. Everyone should have that opportunity and a right to learn and to be able to exercise that right to learn," said Dougherty County Commission Chairman, Chris Cohilas.
Commissioners expect the Southside library to reopen in about six months.
The Westtown branch reopened on a limited schedule last year.
