NICHOLLS, GA (WALB) - Officials are offering a reward in the case of a pig that was brutally killed.
Her name was Penelope, and she was dubbed one of the crowning jewels of General Coffee State Park.
Park employees arrived at work on and found she had been killed.
Officials said Penelope the pig was stabbed to death. Park Manager Wade Huffman said he believes it took more than one person to kill the 300 pound hog.
"Everyone's connected. Everyone knows everyone. We think that someone has information out there," said Huffman.
The Facebook page Friends of Coffee General State Park is offering a $1250 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Penelope's death. Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites HQ Office are helping with the reward.
"We are saddened by the death of our beloved Penelope," the post read.
At least one person on Facebook has offered to donate another pig to the park.
Since the attack, park officials said the other animals there have been moved to another area, in an effort to prevent another incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Coffee County Sheriff's Office at 912-384-4227 or Wade Huffman with the park at 912-384-7082.
