Albany dog park to bring pets, people together

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Eastside Pet Salon and Dog Park opened this week. It includes nearly three acres of play areas and shade for people and pets to enjoy.

Workers were still putting the finishing touches on the sign Thursday as Albany's first dog park opened.

Manager Donna Lesperance said people are excited about the new place and expect this weekend to be busy.

For years she ran her grooming business in East Albany and moved to this location to manage the dog park.

She said lots of people have come by to register and this will be a great new addition to Albany.

"New people are used to having dog parks and things for their pets to do, and this is something that we feel is going to help," Lesperance said.

Her dog Bently has quickly become of the mascot of the new outdoor facility and acts as the "greeter."

Anyone visiting the dog park will be asked to bring their animal's shot records as part of registration.

They will also have shade areas and water stations.

"We ask that you bring your own water bowl so that no one is drinking after each other," said Lesperance.

She hopes the new place will help bond pets and bring people together.

"It helps bond the community," said Lesperance. "People are going to meet out here, the dogs are going to get to know each other. People are going to get to know each other."

No food and or any kind of treats are allowed at the facility.
