Bids now being accepted for long-awaited road repairs

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The bidding process was open as of Thursday for a million dollar road repair project in Valdosta.

S. Troup St. between MLK Dr. and Griffin Ave. will be resurfaced and have sidewalks, bike lanes, and storm drains added.

Bids will be accepted through June 16th and the city was hoping to use local businesses for around 10% of the project.

Valdosta City Engineering Project Manager Kevin Tolliver said citizens had been asking for these repairs for at least six years.

"Over the time I've been with the city, we've gotten a lot of requests for sidewalks here. This is a well traveled way for pedestrians. It's also a way that students walk over to the new Pinevale Elementary School," Tolliver explained.

As of Thursday, work was expected to begin in July and Tolliver said he hoped to have it completed in January of 2016.
