VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - A Valdosta mattress store is helping give military members in South Georgia and North Florida a more comfortable place to sleep.
Mattress Firm on St. Augustine Rd. gave 100 mattresses to a group that helps disabled veterans find jobs.
As Mattress Firm Manager Richard McNair looked at pictures Thursday morning from the mattress delivery, he smiled, remembering how excited the 100 veterans and their families were to receive the mattresses.
"Some came from Jacksonville, some came from Moody here in Valdosta, some from Columbus; Navy SEALs, PJs, Green Berets," said McNair.
The store brought the 100 mattress, which retail for about $6,000 a piece, to the North Florida chapter of the national organization called Darkhorse Benefits.
The organization helps veterans find jobs once they leave the military. "This is the cloud lux from Tempur-Pedic, which is very similar to the one we donated to the Darkhorse foundation," McNair explained as he stood next to the mattress on the store's showroom floor.
McNair pointed out that partnering with this organization is a logical move for the company. "Mattress Firm is very interested in hiring veterans because this company's growing so fast," said McNair.
But, Mattress Firm's partnership with Darkhorse Benefits was not a one time deal.
"We do suggest people purchase Tempur-Pedic or Seally Postur-Pedic because a percentage of the profits from that line goes to the Darkhorse foundation," McNair emphasized.
