THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - A South Georgia animal hospital says many dog owners are attracting snakes into their yards, putting their pets in danger.
Thomasville Animal Hospital has treated several dogs for snake bites this year.
Two of the dogs died.
Veterinarians said you need to keep a close eye on your pets while they play outside, keep a well-trimmed lawn, and remove pet food from outside.
Veterinary Assistant Jennifer Glover said, "Keep the debris cleaned up and keep any type of food source for mice, which in turn, is a food source for snakes. So keep that cleaned up and there won't be any snakes."
Glover said the quicker you get your animal to the vet after a bite, the better chance of survival.
