ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Summer break has begun and the Dougherty County School District wants to make sure kids don't go to bed hungry.
Tuesday May 26th is the start of the seamless summer program, where kids can get a healthy breakfast and lunch at area schools. Any child under the age of 18 can receive a meal at no charge through July 17th.
Nutrition Director Blaine Allen says the need is growing. He keeps a homemade card he received from a grateful student that keeps him wanting to reach more kids in need, and reminds him this program does make a difference.
"Its all what those young ladies and those men do every day is to provide healthy meals for kids they are the ones that makes it happen, and when you get this and share this it makes it all worth while," Allen said.
