THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Many people will celebrate this holiday weekend spending time out in the sun.
One Thomasville dermatologist hosted a Health Talk Thursday night to remind folks how to stay safe under the hot sun.
Dr. Cheryl J. Barnes taught participants about skin cancer, screenings, and the steps a person can take to ultimately save his or her life.
Dr. Barnes said the most important step to remember is to apply, and re-apply, sunscreen.
“Reapply your sunscreen every two hours, or if you sweat or swim, you should reapply immediately. It's not a one-time application. And you need to apply at least two tablespoons on your skin,” Dr. Barnes said.
She also warned patients that you can still get sun damage on cloudy days or while you're driving in your car.
